Video diary guide
Make a year-in-review video from your memories
Select a meaningful date range and turn milestones and everyday moments into a personal film.
Last updated 17 October 2026Choose the year you want to tell
A year in review can follow January through December, a birthday-to-birthday period or another range that matters to you. Decide where the story begins and ends before selecting media. A school year, a first year in a new home or a family chapter can be more meaningful than a calendar year.
Year and custom movie ranges require Pro, as do multiple projects. ClipMyDay Free includes one project with This week and Latest 30 days movie ranges. During closed testing, start with your default project and a Free range unless ClipMyDay already shows Pro access is active; do not make a real-money purchase to follow this guide. You can still keep a local diary without an account.
Balance milestones with ordinary days
Birthdays, trips and family milestones give a year obvious markers. Everyday moments provide the texture between them: the usual walk, a favourite meal, a changing garden or a small achievement. Choose memories that mean something to you instead of trying to represent every event.
A photo can stand beside a short video. Review each date and trim a clip to the action or expression you want to keep. If a date has no saved moment, leave the gap or deliberately choose an existing photo or video for it. Confirm the date if the app cannot establish it exactly.
Review the selection and preview
Before exporting, check the selected moments, their chronological order and the calculated length. Consider whether the sequence includes people and situations you are comfortable sharing. Private moments are excluded by default; if you deliberately include them, check the preview disclosure and your selection carefully.
Prepare a preview and watch the whole film. Adjust crop or fit where a subject is cut off, and choose sound that suits the sequence. The original recording may be valuable in one scene and distracting in another. You can mute original sound or choose a built-in soundtrack, then prepare a fresh preview after changes.
Save the film and preserve the source
Save the film to a destination you choose and consider making a separate copy before sharing it. Ask the people in the film before distributing sensitive family moments. A finished movie is a convenient way to watch the year, but it is not a replacement for your editable diary and original media.
Create a portable archive before moving phones, clearing app data or uninstalling. Keep a copy away from the phone in a location you trust. The archive is an unencrypted ZIP whose contents can be read by anyone with access. See the help centre for the archive and restore steps.
